Oh Brother Where Art Thou? pictures

The movie Oh Brother Where Art Thou? was filmed in central Mississippi in the summer of 1999. Many local people had the opportunity to be extras. Here are some pictures:

9 July 1999. The baptism scene was filmed at Alligator Lake, near Vicksburg. It was HOT, so we didn't mind getting into the water.

10 July 1999. The banquet scene was filmed at the old St Francis Xavier auditorium (now the Southern Cultural Heritage Center) in Vicksburg.

12 July 1999. We had Sunday off, then continued the banquet scene at the old St Francis Xavier auditorium. Thankfully, the production staff provided temporary air conditioning.

13 July 1999. This was the last day of filming for the banquet scene. The Miss Mississippi pageant was also going on this week, so downtown Vicksburg was a busy place.

14 July 1999. This was the first day of filming of the election rally scene at the town square in Canton, Mississippi. It rained, so we went through hair & make-up, then waited. The rain didn't stop, so we were sent home at lunch time.

15 July 1999. This was the second day of filming of the election rally scene in Canton. It was hot, sunny weather and we had a full day of filming. We got to hear George Clooney's daughters tell him that he was "nothin' but a grease spot on the L&N" and that their Momma's new suitor was "bonified"!

16 July 1999. This was the last day of filming of the election rally scene in Canton. We were all old pros by this time.
