Dr. Barry Wayne McCleave died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at his home. He was 56. Born in Clarksdale, Mr. McCleave was a longtime Vicksburg resident. He received his bachelor of science and master of science degrees in electrical engineering from Mississippi State University. In 1991, he received a doctorate in electrical engineering with a minor in computer science from MSU. He worked as a manager trainee at U.S. Steel in Birmingham, Ala., in 1970. He later served in the Army and was assigned to Waterways Experiment Station, where he became a civilian employee. He was a member of numerous professional groups and organizations, including the Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He also authored numerous technical publications, reports and patents. He designed data acquisition systems for all laboratories at WES and was responsible for basic and developmental research on electrical and computer projects. Dr. McCleave had served as second vice president of the Vicksburg Theatre Guild and as a producer of “Gold in the Hills” melodrama. He was a member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, and was a former chairman of the church board. He had served as adjunct professor at MSU since 1991 and designed several field data acquisition systems at the printed circuit card and specialized integrated circuit level. He developed a hydraulic model control package and directional spectral-wave generator. He received a number of awards and honors, including the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service. Survivors include his wife, Earlene Broadus McCleave; two daughters, Fawn McCleave-Francis of Farmington, Mo., and Tiffany McCleave of Hattiesburg; his parents, Fred and Myrtle Haney McCleave of Hattiesburg; a sister, Charmaine McCleave of Hattiesburg; and one grandson. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 3005 Porters Chapel Road, with the Rev. H.G. Bankester, pastor, officiating. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Riles Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church. Pallbearers will be James Francis, Dr. Carry Cox, Jerry Warren, Bert McCleave, Charles Welch, Frederick Broadus and Ben Cummins.
