December 10, 2006 A philandering patriarch returns to the family he abandoned... accompanied by his fiancée. What's funny about that? Come find out. We made the front page of The Vicksburg Post! Information for the cast
As he had deserted them many years before, the family of Archer Connaught, famous author (and philanderer), receives the news of his death in a plane crash with mixed emotions. His daughter is cool and bitter; his son jumps at the chance to write the official biography and his wife relishes the idea of basking in the reflected glory of the tributes certain to come. But then Archer turns up, alive after all, and squiring the lovely young girl, half his age, whom he hopes to marry. But first a divorce is needed, and while his wife, Josie, is seemingly compliant, the problem (or so she says) is that they were never legally married in the first place. After that the complications multiply uproariously as family skeletons are exhumed, romance blossoms in unexpected places, and our hero comes to sense both the generation gap between himself and his intended and the value of a good, loyal wife, tried and true. Director Beth Martin held auditions for the comedy Best of Friends August 5 & 7 at the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation Academy Building. We are back!! With a cast of veterans and newcomers alike, and directed by Beth Martin, Best of Friends was a play full of plot twists and witty dialog. Beth, who also directed An Evening of Culture and Bull in a China Shop, read through scores of scripts before she found this one. Those who joined us saw what grabbed her about Best of Friends. Onstage, we had Vicksburg favorites Buddy Hallberg, Cate Brown, Andrea Fairchild, Colin McAneny, Beth Martin, Murray Shugars, Paul Bennett, Amy Bednar, and Heather Burns.
