The Canterville Ghost
a comedy by Oscar Wilde
Auditions:
Sun. Sept. 16 at 6 p.m., Mon. Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m. DIRECTOR’S FORWARD The Canterville Ghost was written by Oscar Wilde in 1888 and is by far his most popular short story. It was first produced for the stage in 1899 and has since gone through several adaptations and versions. This is only the latest adaptation and for the most part it follows the original version with a few modern updates. Sit back relax and enjoy. A thoroughly American family moves into a haunted 16th century English manor where the resident specter has to cope with those who refuse to be haunted. Oscar Wilde’s parody of American and English values has been adapted for our stage by Director John Hesselberg. This is a ghost story with a twist: the ghost is terrorized! Rehearsals started on Monday, September 24. Thanks to the McRaven Tour Home for allowing us to film our TV ad in their formal living room.
