Presented yearly since 1936, Gold in the Hills features a relentless hero, a winsome heroine, a ruthless villain, beautiful can-can dancers, and the wilder side of city life in the infamous New York Bowery. We are in our 74th season. Gold in the Hills, the Guinness Book of World Records' longest continuously-running melodrama, is finishing another exciting season, with performances Friday and Saturday nights through August 1, starting at 7:30 pm. Records' continuously-longest running melodrama! Auditions for the summer run took place May 17 & May 19 at the Parkside Playhouse. Cast: actors and actresses ages six through adult, and singers and dancers ages teen through adult. There are a few parts for children and numerous parts for teens and adults. Can-can dancers must be at least in the 9th grade. Production dates are Fri.-Sat. Jul. 10 - Aug. 1, 2009.
We are saddened by the death of “Whitey” Johnston on Saturday, June 13, 2009. Whitey played “Murgatroyd” in Gold in the Hills for over 30 years, through July 2007. He is missed. Visitation was June 17, 2009. He was laid to rest on June 18, 2009 at the Parkway Memorial Cemetery in Ridgeland. Clarion-Ledger obituary At the request of the family, Buddy Fortner sang “Sweet Marie” at the service. “Sweet Marie” is a family favorite that Whitey used to sing around the house.
We are saddened by the death of Howard Allison Hood, 65, on January 27, 2009, near Nashville, Tennessee. Allison played the hero Jack Dalton, spun records at WVIM radio, served as a lifeguard at the city swimming pool and ran sprints on the Greenies’ track team. He was student body president and H.V.
