Cast List

Congratulations to Haley Sellers for being selected to the all-star cast in the Community Theatre Division for her performance in The Girls' Room at the Mississippi Theatre Festival.

This powerful drama takes on the subject of date rape. Four girls meet throughout the school year in the girls bathroom, in the mornings when it is off-limits to students. It's their secret refuge where they share stories, tease and argue with each other, but above all, support one another. When one of the girls, a freshman, reveals the name of the guy she is seeing, her sister, a senior, is horrified as he is the boy who raped her in eighth grade. By the end of the school year, they have all grown, learned, and are ready to leave their refuge for good. This play deals with a difficult and provocative subject with sensitivity and humor.

The cast of The Girls' Room sponsored a Yard Sale on January 19 as a fundraiser to help pay competition expenses.

Cast: four females playing characters 13-19 years old; and one adult male (does not appear on stage).

Technical Requirements:  There are no sets. Costume changes should denote the change in seasons between scenes. Each character carries a backpack with books, makeup, and accessories. Joanie also carries a key on a chain around her neck. In the last scene Cathy carries a blanket, a lighter, and four cupcakes with small birthday candles. Lighting is simple and kept to the center third of the stage. For the scenes in the dark, a slotted gobo on a light offstage right is suggested to create the illusion of a pattern of sunlight streaking through a window and on to the stage floor.

Approximate Running Time: 45-50 minutes
