Presented yearly since 1936, Gold in the Hills features a relentless hero, a winsome heroine, a ruthless villain, beautiful can-can dancers, and the wilder side of city life in the infamous New York Bowery. Our 73rd season started in March 2008. Gold in the Hills, the Guinness Book of World Records' longest continuously-running melodrama, is having another exciting season in March and July 2008, with performances Friday and Saturday nights starting at 7:30 pm. Records' continuously-longest running melodrama! Auditions for 2008 were held January 27th and 29th and May 10th and 12th at the Parkside Playhouse. Cast: actors and actresses ages six through adult, and singers and dancers ages teen through adult. There are a few parts for children and numerous parts for teens and adults. Can-can dancers must be at least in the 9th grade. We had a good turnout at auditions. We welcome Lindsey Bailey, Roy Bailey, Shannon Bell, Paul Bennett, Akia Chabot, Celeste Constancio, Cynthia Constancio, Ann Wallace DeRossette, Theresa Frost, Mark Gravens, John Hesselberg, Sissy Hudson, Erin Jackson, George Jackson, Jasmine Jackson, Wes Johnson, Sharayah McKellar, Holly Oakes, Kimberly Oakes, Wendy Oakes, Haley Sellers, Emily Stringer, Jennifer Stringer, and Ian Tubman to the Gold cast. Jason Fairchild served as Director for the spring run, assisted by Terri Booth, Richard Van Den Akker, and Cathy Blanche. Rehearsals of individual characters took place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Hawkins United Methodist Church through March 13. Run-throughs started on March 18 at the Parkside Playhouse, and the spring run opened on March 28.
