The summer run of
Gold in the Hills
opens on July 10 at the
Parkside Playhouse!
Our 74th season has started. Gold in the Hills, the Guinness Book of World Records' longest continuously-running melodrama, is having another exciting season in July 2009, with performances Friday and Saturday nights starting at 7:30 pm. We offer open seating, no reservations required, and always plenty of seats. |

VTG News Director Jim Shirley will hold auditions for The Best of Broadway III Saturday & Sunday July 18 & 19 at 2 p.m. at the Parkside Playhouse. The cast will consist of four men and two women able to sing Broadway show tunes. The show dates are September 18-20 & 25-27. Director Jim Miller will hold auditions for The Foreigner Saturday & Sunday July 25 & 26 at 2 p.m. at the Parkside Playhouse. The cast will consist of four men, ages teens-40s, and two women, ages 30-70. The show dates are November 6-8 & 13-15. Entergy employees can log into the Entergy Portal to record their hours volunteered to VTG. For every 20 hours volunteered, VTG receives a grant of $250, with a limit of $750 per employee/retiree per year. Hours can be logged retroactively from January 1, 2008. Questions? The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation/VTG Southern Drama Kids performing-arts classes will be held July 13-17 and July 20-24 from 9-11 a.m. in the SCHF Auditorium. The registration fee for the entire program is only $50 per student and is open to any child ages 12-18. Trained instructors from the Vicksburg Theatre Guild will guide the students through stage crafts, set designs, improvisation, projection/delivery, reading/auditions, voice, various skits and vocal performances. This program is designed to build acting skills, creative thinking, speaking skills, confidence, leadership abilities, self-esteem and enthusiasm. At the end of the program, an “Academy Awards” will be held on Monday, July 27 at 6:00 p.m. for the students to showcase what they have learned to family and friends and also receive special recognition for their completion of the program. Regional Theatre Activities Congratulations to the Starkville Community Theatre for their performance of Catfish Moon at the AACTFest competition in Tacoma, Washington. SCT gained the following national recognition: Best Ensemble, Best Supporting Actress (Krista Vowell), Backstage Achievement, Nomination for Best Actor (Paul Ruff), Nomination for Best Supporting Actor (Marcus Vowell), and Nomination for Set Design. This Property is NOT Condemned! The Bay St. Louis Little Theatre has taken the first step on its path to a new permanent home after being totally destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The New John F. Holmes Theatre will be in a building known locally as the “This Property is Condemned” building, a building that was featured prominently in the 1966 film of the same name. Based (loosely) on a Tennessee Williams one-act play, the movie starred Natalie Wood and the devilish Robert Redford, and is believed to be the only movie filmed in Bay St. Louis.
