Treat yourself to an afternoon or evening of leisure in the country! Oscar Wilde's classic tale of deception, lust, and silliness among the idle rich is done “in period,” with a wonderful cast, magnificent costumes, and even a rotating set to take the audience from the garden to the drawing room.

Cast lists and rehearsal schedules will be announced and scripts will be distributed. Registration fees are due at Orientation: $35 per child for VTG members and $55 per child for non-members. Memberships may also be purchased.

Upcoming VTG activities

The Gold in the Hills summer run opens July 11 at the Parkside Playhouse. For more information, please contact Mike Calnan.

Auditions for Faith County July 12 & 13. Director Jim Miller will hold auditions at the Parkside Playhouse on July 12 & 13 from 2-4 p.m. Audition forms are available online. Cast: three men playing characters in their 20s (1), 30s (1), and 40s (1); and six women playing characters in their 20s (2), 40s (2), and 50s (2). Faith County is the prequel to An Evening of Culture, returning to our stage the colorful residents of Mineola, where there's stiff competition in the arts and crafts category at this year's county fair. Production dates are September 12-14 & 19-21.

Auditions for Stalag 17 August 16-18. Director John Hesselberg will hold auditions at the Parkside Playhouse on August 16 & 17 from 2-4 p.m. and August 18 from 6-8 p.m. Audition forms are available online. Cast: 20 men playing characters ages 15-75. Stalag 17 is a tense-yet-funny drama about Allied prisoners in a World-War-II German POW camp. Production dates are Nov. 7-9 & 14-16.

VTG is starting a youth theater group, 9th grade through age 20. Any one who did not attend the meeting and is interested, please fill out this questionnaire and send it to Amy Bednar.

Regional Theatre Activities

This Property is NOT Condemned! The Bay St. Louis Little Theatre has taken the first step on its path to a new permanent home after being totally destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The New John F. Holmes Theatre will be in a building known locally as the “This Property is Condemned” building, a building that was featured prominently in the 1966 film of the same name. Based (loosely) on a Tennessee Williams one-act play, the movie starred Natalie Wood and the devilish Robert Redford, and is believed to be the only movie filmed in Bay St. Louis.

Coming up at New Stage Theatre:
Children’s Mini Camp (rising 1st-4th grades) June 2-13, 2008 Cost: $250; (still has plenty of room).
Broadway Jr. Summer Camp Intensive (rising 5th-12th grades) June 16-July 11 Cost: $400; (only a few spots left). The culmination of the camp will be a fully mounted production of Willie Wonka, Jr. on the theatre’s main stage.
